2021 Winghaven Brewing Competition

Overview:

On April 17th come pick up 6 gallons of wort brewed by Petrichor Brewing and then use it as a base to brew whatever style you want. Then at a later date, homebrewers who received wort will bring their creations back to taste, serve, and judge one another as well as our Pint Club members and owners. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as ‘People’s Choice.’

Key dates:

• Saturday April 17th, 8am - 2pm: Wort Share, bring clean/sanitized buckets with lid to Petrichor Brewing for Wort pickup.
• Sunday May 23rd, 1pm - 4pm: Winghaven Brewing Competition. (Date is tentative based on current crisis.)

Greetings fellow Homebrewers,

Do you have what it takes to compete? Petrichor Brewing is inviting local homebrewers to participate in its 2nd Annual Winghaven Wort Share & Brewing Competition. Petrichor Brewing will be brewing 10 BBL of wort and shall provide 6 gallons of wort per homebrewer. There will be a total of 60 spots available.

The wort pickup will be on Saturday April 17th, 2020 from 10am to 5pm. On the day of the wort share, you will bring your clean/sanitized bucket WITH lid to Petrichor Brewing between 8am and 2pm (brewery & kitchen open at 11AM). Wort must be picked up by you or a responsible party by 2pm, otherwise we will freely distribute your wort to anyone who wants it -- so be warned!

There is no cost to enter the competition and the only requirement is that you use Petrichor’s wort, which will be available for free at the 8am the day of the Wort Share, while supplies last. Sign-up times for wort pickup will begin at 8am. Due to the current situation, please arrive at the time selected and use precautionary measures (i.e. gloves, face mask, etc.) at your discretion. Petrichor employees will be wearing protective gloves & masks the day of the wort share.

2021 Malt Bill:

• 46.2% Two-Row Base malt,
• 16.9% Pilsner,
• 15.4% Flaked Corn
• 7.7% Dextrin,
• 7.7% Munich 10L

The wort will be not be boiled.

Expected Specifications:

- SG - 1.052 - SRM - 4.0 - pH - 5.2-56

Competition / judging event shall be on Sunday May 23rd*, 2021. Our goal is to have an event for our pint club members as well as other guests who will help vote on their favorite brewery & beer. We'll be shutting down the entire road in front of the brewery for social distancing, live music, and food will be available. Entrants will provide their created twist in the wort provided by Petrichor. This can be kegged or bottles, but must be ready to serve by this tentative date. We will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as a “People’s Choice” winner! More information to come to those who participate.

Grand Prize: A unique brewer for the day Petrichor Brewing experience. The winning recipe will be brewed and served in house! Along with special Petrichor swag! Grand prize scheduling is subject to a number of variables including, but not limited to; ingredient availability, production schedule, etc. Prizes for runner ups, best in show, ect. will be awarded at the competition as well.
